Notes from a Drama Queen

Hard work and J-rock

Tuesday, July 18, 2006

Since this is basically a working blog I haven't had time to say much. I keep juggling books -- in the last few weeks I've been going over the collaborative novel I'm doing with Jenny Crusie and Eileen Dreyer, writing a synopsis for the new Ice book (tentatively entitled ICE STORM), and buying a new car. Thelma. An Electric Blue PT Cruiser in honor of finishing ICE BLUE, with a moonroof and six speakers and satellite radio. Except that satellite radio doesn't have any J-rock, so it's fortunate I have a 6 cd changer for Siam Shade, Gackt, L'Arc-en-ciel and Dir en grey. The one thing I need is bullet holes -- you can get decals for them, and Thelma needs them if she's really going to be my ICE BLUE car.
Speaking of J-rock, I just did the galleys for COLD AS ICE and kept chuckling. I like to do little shout-outs, and my heroine works for the law firm of Roper, Hyde, Camui and Fredericks. If you don't know who Hyde and Camui are then it doesn't really matter, but it amused me. My heroine's martial arts instructor was Master Tenchi, in honor of an anime my daughter loved many years ago, and I even give a shout-out to Kate's Latin teacher, Mrs. Wiesen.
The RWA conference is coming up next week (in Atlanta -- come for the massive autographing if you're nearby), then a family wedding (forcing me to miss seeing Yoshiki in the flesh ), and then back to work. I've decided I need to work faster.
The glorious thing is I want to write. I've got all these stories I want to tell. You'd think after so many years I'd run out of ideas, but they just keep coming.
And I can't wait to get to a book about Reno, the punk Japanese gangster.
